On December 13th, PaFIA held a Board Meeting at ShootersINC in Philadelphia. PaFIA Lobbyist reported that we have positive relations with the Corbett Administration. There will be more discussions with the Department of Community and Economic Development regarding the Film Tax Credit Program in 2012.

PaFIA will also continue to work with the Department of Industry and Labor as Child Labor Law proposal moves through the legislative process.

The 2011 Film Tax Credit Report to the General Assembly can be found on pafia.org website under Government Incentives tab – Useful Links as well as on PA Film Office’s website filminpa.com. Also, no replacement for Lenwood Sloan (former PA Film Commissioner). Rose Mape (Acting Deputy Secretary – DCED) will continue to be the point person regarding PA Film Office activities.

PaFIA Chair shared with the Board that we still need to recruit strong leaders to our group. He asked the Board for their involvement in fundraising and membership efforts. He also gave an update of productions in Western and Eastern PA. ‘One Shot’ is shooting in Pittsburgh til January 17th and a smaller feature ‘Frank & Francis’ shoots in Pittsburgh February 21st – April 18th. M. Night Shyamalan’s film ‘After Earth’ starts February for about 5 – 6 weeks in Philadelphia.

Our Sponsorship Chair reported that 31st Street Studios and A&S Steel became new corporate sponsors. In addition, Capital Grille Philadelphia and Crescent Moon Movie Catering became new corporate members.

As of December 2011, we have 1045 members, 22 Corporate Sponsors ($1,000 – $10,000 level) and 18 Corporate Members ($500 level).

Several events and programs were discussed. Next PaFIA event is scheduled for 1/19/12 in Pittsburgh with guest speaker Jake Myers (Executive Producer of ‘One Shot’ starring Tom Cruise shooting in Pittsburgh). Event will take place at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh from 7-9pm. An event in Philadelphia is being planned for February/March timeframe. Stay tuned for more details.

Our Communications Committee continues to conduct interviews with selected PaFIA members in both Western and Eastern PA to give a broader face to our association and to show the individuals who make up our membership. These interviews (Member Profiles) are posted on the PaFIA website and Facebook. We will be interviewing crew members, hotels,, restaurants and other member business owners.
