PennDOT extending expiration dates for some products

PennDOT will extend expiration dates for certain products, the department announced .

Commercial driver licenses and learner’s permits set to expire between March 16 and Sept. 30 will be extended. Additionally, expiration dates for Hazardous Materials Endorsements (HME) — for commercial license holders who held a valid HME with no security threat — will also be extended.

The extension is in response to the state’s covid-19 mitigation efforts, which closed many PennDOT license and photo ID centers. Diego Sandino, a PennDOT spokesman, said the majority,97 facilities statewide, have reopened.

Sandino said expiration dates for commercial license products were extended as the state complies with an extension at the federal level.

Earlier in the pandemic, the deadline for enforcing Real ID was also pushed back a year, and in May, the state began using existing photos on file to allow residents to renew their licenses online.

Extensions on expiration dates for non-commercial driver licenses, photo identification cards, learner’s permits and camera cards ended Monday.
