PaFIA February Membership Event with Josh Shelov and Robert & Patricia Weiser

February 22, 2012

Location: Tashan, 777 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147

PaFIA hosted an event with guest speakers Josh Shelov (Director) and Robert and Patricia Weiser (Producers) of the feature comedy THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST starring Neil Patrick Harris, Bonnie Sommerville and Amy Sedaris.

THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST is a farce centering on the “blood sport” of trying to get your child into an elite New York City kindergarten. The film centers on New York young couple as they attempt to navigate the cutthroat and hilarious waters of the city’s private schools. It was filmed in Philadelphia during the summer of 2009 with a theatrical opening in June 2011 and digital release in August 2011. The film is currently available On Demand and on DVD.

Previously, Director Josh Shelov was the screenwriter of GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS (2005), starring Elijah Wood. He also wrote THE MIRACLE OF ST. ANTHONY for Walden Media, and TEN BEARS for Warner Brothers and director Todd Phillips (THE HANGOVER).

Husband and wife team, Robert and Patricia Weiser, produced THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST and organized over 200 screenings nationwide in advance of the official New York – Los Angeles theatrical opening in June 2011. The Weisers continue to develop and option new materials including digital comic books, screenplays, television content and advertising content.

At the PaFIA event, Mr. Shelov and the Weisers shared their experience about filming in Philadelphia. They emphasized that the PA Film Tax Credit incentive was very important for making the film in Philadelphia.
